Partner, Michael W. Schroeder, provides superior legal strategies in intellectual property transactions and disputes, with a primary focus on the proper protection, growth and enforcement of a company’s unique and valuable trademark assets. Mr. Schroeder’s practice relies on his extensive expertise in domestic and international trademark prosecution and litigation, having personally represented hundreds of trademark clients at all stages before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), including in appeals, oppositions and cancellations. This specialized knowledge of trademark law ensures his clients receive comprehensive protection of their marks from inception to federal registration and enforcement.
Mr. Schroeder also counsels and represents clients in internet domain disputes, including in Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) arbitration proceedings before the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), as well as federal Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) claims. In addition, Mr. Schroeder’s practice focuses on privacy, data security and digital marketing matters. As a Certified Information Privacy Professional (IAPP / CIPP-US), Mr. Schroeder has extensive experience drafting and implementing privacy policies, cookie policies and terms and conditions of use for websites, services, mobile apps, and wireless internet connections for major retailers, software developers, public policy organizations and various other for-profit and charitable corporations. Mr. Schroeder is also well-versed in drafting and negotiating all manner of trademark and IP licensing agreements, right of publicity agreements, confidentiality / non-disclosure agreements (NDA’s) and end user license software agreements.
Mr. Schroeder graduated from Southwestern Law School, cum laude. Southwestern granted Mr. Schroeder the distinction of Biederman Entertainment & Media Law Scholar for his aptitude, passion and proficiency for the study and practice of entertainment and media law.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Schroeder graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and worked for four years as a television ad sales account executive for a major advertising agency in the Los Angeles area. Consequently, the importance of brand and media management has been a focal point throughout Mr. Schroeder’s career.
